Jolla: The Next Big Thing in Smartphone Innovation ?
Jolla have taken the mobile phone world by storm with their announcements and if words alone are anything to go by, they will be the next big thing. But don’t just take my word for it, take a look at the teams previous innovative work with their wonderful open source fluid operating systems (N9 Meego OS or N900 Maemo) and a handset which will no doubt be distinct from all the other copycat look-a-likes out there.
Let’s face it, everyone’s sick of the technological watered down norm in the mobile phone world, which include oversold, dull, generic, clunky (in terms of OS), resource draining Android handsets (yawn yawn) lead by the copy-cat Brigade (see Samsung; HTC) – for godsake do something original and unique instead of copying Apple (Vs. Samsung) or Nokia (Vs. HTC) designs!!
HTC 8X series: Using the same polycarbonate casing and colours, looks very similar to new Nokia Lumia 920/820 and the Lumias forebearer: Nokia N9 which the Jolla team stemmed from.
Samsung Galaxy Ace: Obvious IPhone Clone
Then there is the other camp: the Apple worshipping consumers who worship Iphone as a demi-God, treating Apple like some religious technology Cult (see this recent video for confirmation of the blind worship I speak of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GHwPzVR0a1w tipped by mynokiablog). I’m not against Apple or the IPhone per se, only the fact that there are many other great innovative products out there which always seem to get overshadowed even though they may be more innovative which is a real shame.
Iphone 5: Latest iteration lacks innovation but still has cult-like following !?
Nokia are supposed to be our saviours from all this lunacy, but with them seemingly cutting all ties with Symbian/Maemo/MeeGo/Meltemi and with their full attention on Windows Phone 8 now it seems like there is little hope of a new ecosystem any time soon (I must say on a side note, I am loving the look of the lumia 920 and 820 and at least Nokia are still pushing innovation with some truly amazing imaging technology (Pureview) amongst many other things).
Nokia Lumia 920/820: Show great promise with many new innovations.
Enter Jolla: a fresh face in amidst the chaotic and over saturated smartphone market. Daring to be different, a small company who are moving forward to great things without the clutter and baggage of these huge multinationals. A finely tuned team of specialists, software developers, engineers, designers, who are looking to achieve just one thing: to bring their unique breed of open source software and hardware to a whole new level beyond the norm.
Prepare to be blown away, prepare to be seduced and have your cash at the ready because when you see what is coming, you will not want to be without it and trust me, no-one will….

I am wating for the phone … i currently own an iphone 4 and wouldn’t buy any android or the new ios devices. To me there are 2 possibilities: either jolla comes with something really breathtaking (which I think they will if one considers the n9), either I give lumia 920 a try.
I am sorry to say that i did not get to use a n9 … they are rarely found on the market and are a bit expencive.
I agree, the lack of marketing and distribution on the N9 was shameful. As I see it, Jolla will be your next device
I agree! Jolla will be your (and mine) next device. Nokia 920 is a great device too but my heart belongs to Meego.
So true. And I daresay that this “lack” was calculatio. Nokia woudn’t ever have sold a fraction of their Lumia’s if the N9 would have been advertised and made widely available.
What Eflop meant as an intention to protect lumia so far might mutate in a further nightmare for Nokia if you guys show up with a true market disrupting device und further future disruptions
I’m looking forward and can hardly await your first device. Keep it up! <3
I own a Nokia N9 and I love it. I love Meego, is clean, simple and powerful, love the desing and the size, I wish Jolla can support this divice in the future. One advised, good marketing is crucial for selling your products, n9 is a awesome divice but unfortunately Nokia did not give a lot of promotion and marketing that required
N9 Harmattan is a Nokia product so there is little that Jolla can do in this instant, although Nokia of course can continue supporting it if they see fit. When Jolla and the community bring out new MeeGo related apps in the near future, there is a good chance they will be compatible with the N9 but of course it’s not guaranteed at this stage.
I have high hopes that Jolla OS could be installed on N9 since Nemo is already running on N9 and Jolla OS should be close relative with Mer and Qt.
That would not mean that Id pass Jolla device. If its any good, Ill be having one even just for support of entrepreneurs.
What would we do if Jolla gets the N9 in your distribution in the near future! It could be possible!!

Yup.
I think Jolla is sailing on it’s way to success.
With a platform like MeeGo, and an experience like the one these ex-Nokians have, it can only succeed.
I will wait with impatience for their first products!
Like you Polarone we are all here waiting impatiently with tremendous anticipation!!
Another impatient here!!!
When the N9 was declared an orphan, I was saddened. You have cheered me up! I love my N9, Iove the interface (swipe) and I hope that you can keep that in the new Jollaphone!
although i am using the N8,the problem is i am bit more frustrated to use it as JOLLA has started to come in to my mind. the questions are so many for it though.
1. How the Design would look like?
2. Will it have daring fresh new look?
3. Would it support the elder brother, The Great N9?
4. Will it be truly open source by all terms?
5. Won’t it be the lame Horse of the Nokia?
6. Will Jussi Harmola, be the next Steve Jobs?
we need Answers thought. Cheers.
